There is so much wind down here that grilling can be a PITA sometimes. Especially cooking with charcoal.

I used an old crappy coffee table as a base and crate wood and made myself a grillin’ shack. I’m making a bigger grill to go inside but here it is with my little homemade grill in it for now.

It’s not finished yet. Still need to put some tin on top and hanging hooks and maybe lights in it. Waiting until I get the grill made first.

Should I do a little sanding and then waterproof/stain/clear coat it or just let it weather naturally?

You built an outhouse for your grill. Your grill might have some performance anxiety. That should help.

Interesting. That wind down there would be a whipping I am sure.

Nice looking shack. So do you find the need to change out a primary disconnect from time to time?

I asked my wife what I should call it. Shed, shack, barn, hut. I mentioned it looked like an outhouse and she said no to that one. roflmao

Wouldn’t you want the metal on the bottom too?

I’d paint the outside with Flood brand wood stain of your choice

Maybe coat the outside of the tin roof that elastomeric RV metal roof coating.

Consider cinder block floor to give the structure some weight and fireproofing the floor
Could put down a welders blanket under the blocks for additional insulation and fire prevention

With the wind down there I’d anchor it with those earth auger anchors.

All that wood, and open flames.

What could possibly go wrong?

I’ve thought about that as well. There’s 8-9” between the grill bottom and the floor though. I’ll have to put the biggest coal pile I’d ever have in the new grill and see how hot it gets underneath it. Won’t be hard to add it later.

I just happen to have some cinder block but was wondering if they can explode like concrete does when it gets hot. Anyone know?

The grill I’m gonna make will be about 150 pounds. The ground under it is a concrete slab. If that doesn’t seem stable enough I’ll use some anchor bolts to hold it down.

The coals won’t be started in the shack. They’ll be in a metal box off to the side and shoveled in as needed.

In windy conditions, structures like that are notorious for creating a microclimate around its base which will cause a severe downdraft effect

I would alter the shape to an octagon and install a FOS-12 wind screen to mitigate those effects
