Just bought/installed a new Minn Kota Terrova trolling motor for my fish/ski. How do you use in VERY shallow water? For example - if you throw a lure near water edge and get hung. To get the lure - on my previous model, I would partial lift the trolling motor out of water by pulling the rope up - and hold such that it was barely in the water. I could get very shallow. The new Minn Kota can't operate that way - as they swing up - then slide in....I don't think they operate partially raised? Do I have to bring in - and adjust the motor depth with the adjustment knob?

Really like the new motor....just hope there is easy way to get motor to operate temporarily in shallow water.

Thanks

That's an interesting question. There are enough of them out there someone should be able to tell you. The way I cast, if I had one and could not easily raise it up to get into shallow water, I sure would be loosing a lot of baits.

Although I don’t have that TM and can’t help you there, I have this tool on my boat and love it! I have a friend I take fishing on my boat and he likes to fish up in bushes and trees. This has saved us plenty of lures.

Since you dont have a rope to pull up.. on mine .I would either lower the depth collar down so the blades were very shallow or manually hold it up....driving the Terrova with my remote control...later I added a couple of 12 inch rubber tie-down strap around the head that I could attack a rope pull to it...I recently upgraded to an Ultrex primarily because of some of the new features and the Terrova was getting harder for me to pull up and deploy as I am getting older...

It will operate partially lifted i use the foot control and it can be done.
Its not very easy and never thought of not having the rope when I upgraded a few years ago.
Good luck with practice you can do it.

These work great. A lot easier than messing with the trolling motor.

Get moving the direction towards your bait. Once the boat is moving at a good pace, pull the motor up and lock it down.
As the boat drifts towards your bait, the nose of the boat will lightly run up in that shallow water stopping momentum as the hull touches bottom.

Get your bait and either use your paddle to push you out or crank up the big motor to pull you back out with a brief shot of reverse.

If you can't muster the thought of a possible scratch on your hull, then you either cut your line or don't take your boat into the shallows.

I opted for the Ultrex for this exact reason. I was concerned that I wouldn't be able to pull the rope and run it halfway lifted out of the water. I just didn't see how I would be able to this with the other models.

Well. If the lures expensive, and the waters shallow enough, I jump out of the boat and go get it. I try not to put myself in that situation often.
