Incredible definition on these units. Im still rocking the older units on a kayak. You guys are going to make me buy a boat and new electronics pretty soon!

Seems to me that Helix pics are typically the best. They will definitely be my next units, just need to get rid of my Lowrance live first.

Congrats on your new Garmin. Let me know if you figure out the settings to get clearer images. Here’s one from yesterday.

good stuff! are you able to tell whether it is a bunch of 8 inch crappie vs a bunch of slabs? that might take some practice but would be great to learn.

I have a Helix 7 KVD on the RT 188 I just bought (used). I fooled around with it today for about an hour and a half and I could never get as good an image as what I’m seeing above. I’m gonna try to post a pic. [Linked Image]

The red arrows point to bridge pilings but what is the gray ghostly images surrounding the vertical piling, left side of screen ? And can anyone point me in the direction of clearing the image up to see better detail. Is it even possible with this unit ? Oh, and the item circled in yellow. Brushpile ? Thanks !

Looks like the sensitivity is a little high. The shadows are hard to tell for sure but some of it is literally the shadow cast by the piling. Bright returns are hard objects, dark ares are no return of the sonar or shadow. The area circled looks to be a brush pile but until the "snow" is removed from the screen, it's hard to say for sure. Whatever it is, is casting a shadow, so it is off the bottom a couple of feet.

Since that picture was taken, I watched a YouTube tutorial on the Helix 7, and turned the sensitivity down and the sharpness up. I also changed the pallette color to amber. It’s better now, but still not nearly as good as those above. I’m wondering if it has anything to do with the transducer.

It could be the transducer but my guess is still with adjustments to the settings. Everything in the picture above is there just not sharp. If it was a transducer problem, I would think the objects wouldn't have the detail that they do. I think the contrast in the picture above could use some tweaking, as you look at the photo, the boat travel area is the same color as the other areas, that should be black or nearly black.
