Anybody doing any good on Ray Roberts? Haven’t been able to go for a while. Kid goes back to college next week so was thinking about trying it tomorrow before he goes.

Fished brush piles and timber today. It was a struggle but finally got into them on some trees in IDB creek. Most were small but managed about 12-15 keepers on minnows and a few on jigs.

Thanks BC. Sounds just like it was the last time we were there back in June. Wonder when they’ll start bunching up.

I’m a timber guy, but it’s been a little slow so we hired a guide to fish the brush piles and it was pretty good 5 brush piles and 55 crappie, 2 sand bass, 2 catfish, by 12:30 [Linked Image]
Oh I forgot to say Love me some Ray Bob

roflmao We’ve used several guides on RayBob. They know their stuff. Tomorrow we’ll just wing it and play with the Livescope.

You really don’t need a guide on Roberts right now. Fish timber or brush in 15-30 ft with minnows or smaller jigs and cover water.

Well.... it was a little slow. We learned that you need to take the wind prediction of any Texas meteorologist and double it. Triple it if you’re on the water. Spot lock got a workout. Prop was out of the water or water was coming over the bow. It was brutal. We managed to catch 18 with 11 keepers in 9 hours. Only a few dinks on the corp piles we tried. But we didn’t stay on those long as the wake boats had no problem buzzing the tower. So headed back to the trees. Caught most of the keepers off a couple of small piles in 24-30 fow up by Wolf. Tried minnows and jigs both but most had lockjaw. You could see them chase the bait on LS but they just wouldn’t clamp on. It was frustrating but we kept at it. Unusual we didn’t catch an occasional catfish or sandbass. But it was good to spend time with my son before he heads back to college this weekend so it was still a good day.

Thanks for the report. We said the same Saturday morning. We don’t have SL or LS. We have been trying to use anchors. It works somewhat but is tough. Much easier to tie off to trees.

Your using anchors on brush piles?

No sir, going up wind of the pile and dropping anchor. We're not complete idiots. Now we do get drug into the pile on occasion. Haven't lost an anchor yet though.
