Has anyone fished the Blanco River in Blanco? Going to spend a few days near there and wanted to know what type of tackle to pack. Thanks.

Yes; it's good for fly fishing. Go light.

It's a great place to fish with ultralight gear or a fly rod. It's loaded with sunfish, bass, and catfish although most you catch are going to be small, but it can be a lot of fun on light gear.

Just one more cast!

Thanks for the information. Are there any particular fly patterns and lures for this time of the year?

You can't go too far wrong using the basics. Smaller top water popping bugs for a fun bluegill and small bass bite. Streamers like a clouser which imitate minnows for bass. Small spinner baits and crank baits for spinning tackle. These are what I would use anywhere this time of year, but especially in a clear water river fishery.

I fish the Blanco a lot. I fish for the Bluegill/Sunfish. I use night crawlers with ultralight tackle. I fish up stream from the Blanco State Park. Lots of Bluegill, and Guadalupe Bass. I also fish the Blanco in Hays County. (San Marcus) Do well in that area also. I have caught my share of bass over the years but nothing all that big. Lot of swimmers this time of year and with virus going on, a lot more people are enjoying the river. I would suggest fishing the Blanco during Mid September through early November. Fish by brush piles and over hanging tree limbs. Good luck. thumb

We were down there and I caught one what i thought was a decent bass (I guess it was a guadalupe?) walking the bank throwing a rooster tail. My son and wife caught several 1-2 lbs cats on hot dogs.

Thanks for the information. I understand that the river is low right now. I’m use to fishing clear water in the North East and Colorado. Sounds like typical trout tackle will work great.
