Is there something y'all do to avoid the Gar? Other day caught around 6 blues, and about 10 Gar...
Using cut shad and circle hooks. The gar were wearin out. Any idea?

Change locations...I’m surprised you were able to catch that many gar. They usually just pick it up and run with it a ways and spit it when you crank down. They are running in huge schools right now and you’ll see all species running with them. If they are out deep enough you can drift under them but if they are up in a cove sometimes you just gotta go find a different group of fish.

Moving locations is the best answer. I’ve been catching a lot of them lately too! ![[Linked Image]](https://texasfishingforum.com/forums/pics/userpics/2020/08/full-112346-62276-img_4521.png)

There were plenty of takedowns by the gar... But some reason kept hooking up with them. Maybe use bigger hooks? I was using 5/0 I think. Don't know since they're out of the package.
What hooks y'all use for 2-10lb blues? We've only caught 3 over 10lb. And 17biggest so far
Cvitale, oh my. Ain't no way Im holding one of them nasty things... Lol

I think it’s important to fit your hook size to the size of the bait you're using. I typically use a size 7 or 8 circle hook. iFloat, the only problem with holding gar is how slippery they are. I've never had one bite me. Thank God! ![[Linked Image]](https://texasfishingforum.com/forums/pics/userpics/2020/08/full-112346-62404-img_4702.jpg)

I know that you are looking for eaters, but I think I would enjoy playing with the gar. I just like a bend on the pole.
