the Mississippi river is big and powerful....these pictures were taken when river was nearing flood stage and the whirlpools and rip currents are caused by the river flowing over underwater rock dikes.....

That's kind of scary right there. I couldn't imagine being out there in my bass boat. Same goes for the Great lakes. Not sure how all of those people risk putting a bass boat on body of water that big.

Rivers at flood stage are very powerful, even the smaller ones. I have seen those on the Red River near Gilliam Louisiana before they put in the locks and dams. Not near that big but still scary.
