Got to the lake before day break and headed over to meet up with Donnie (Catcrew) to show him a few spots on the lake. He & his wife are staying in the cabins for a few days. We were meeting a 7am & I was a little early so decided to search a little for some new sunfish colonies on the way...ended up finding 2, so we fished those and caught maybe 25-30 right off the bat. The overall morning bite was of a little off, but that's the way it's been for the past 3 weeks. HOWEVER, between 1pm & 4 pm the bite was on fire for both size & numbers. Didn't use the counter today, but ended up with around 200 or so. The water temp was low 90s & the lake level was up a little from full pool. Ended up keeping a bag full of fish today for the skillet. (8 fish) I needed to find a shady spot the clean the fish & found a tree in one of the creeks. While in the process a Racoon climbed up right above me to eat some berries, oblivious to my activities. Got a pic, but not a very good one...just looks like a fur ball. [Linked Image]

Chuck...Boat traffic VERY light. I believe I was the only boat on the lake after 12:00 noon. When I took my boat out at 4:30 my truck was the only one in the parking lot. Did run into TomRom in the morning at the intake area...

Thanks Osborne...I keep thinking I am going to run into you on Fayette one of these days...

Nice report Steve. It was also nice seeing you and meeting Donnie aka Catcrew on the water. It sure was a hot out there. I experienced the same results as you two on the bite and no particular bait stood out. About 5 minutes after you guys left me, the fish really turned on and I was putting good numbers and size on the board. While in the heat of the battle, a guy yelled over to me who was on his trolling motor and asked if I could tow him back to the ramp. Of course I had no hesitation and said yes. It took about an hour but I was glad to help. I went back out and found good fish here and there. I also caught two really nice bass and had two break me off. Its crazy that they will hit that small of bait. I called it quits when I ran out of gator aid around 2:30.

Curtis...Let me know when you are going...if you go on a Monday or Tuesday, maybe we can meet up.

Tom...I had a few break offs also (in the trees) that were probably bass. I keep forgetting to strip a few feet of line off the end & with 4 lb test Flouro it is critical. Do you ever fish the rocks on the other side of the channel at the intake (west side) ? I keep meaning to, but always forget. It's always good to help a fellow boater out...never know when we will that same situation.

Another great day at Fayette!

Did anyone launch at Oak Thicket? Are the repairs on the dock complete?

I towed the guy that was broken down back to Oak Thicket and I think they were. I noticed they were working on the fishing pier.

Bill...Tom pretty much nailed it...The ramp area has the boat stalls that looked complete as well as the dock right by the launch....that's where I picked up Catcrew. The fishing pier was almost complete...looked like they were nailing on the last planks. They also were building what looked to be a rock pile (maybe erosion protector) just to the side of the fishing pier. Hoping they put that much improvement at Park Prairie. They were doing a lot of work at park Prairie, just not on the pier yet...I have noticed that the restroom at Park Prairie is a LOT cleaner...

Vogey, Y'all are killing me! I haven't been out in quite awhile. I sprung too many leaks in my waders to comfortably fish the tube. But a quick trip to Academy today rectified that situation.
