Lets breakdown the application rates. Regardless of what pre-emergent you use. But I will use the Andersons for example since that's the one I posted. Read The Label! That goes for any product you use. Spend an hour and figure out your front yard/backyard/side yard/whatever, square footage. It's simple and write it down. Get a cheap scale. Test it with a 2lb weight to make sure it's accurate. Then you're ready to accurately weigh and spread X amount of a granular product over the X amount of square footage. I'm probably making this more complicated than it should be, but I like to be exact or close to.

So here we go. Andersons - Prodiamine max rate per year rate is 7.2lbs of product per 1000sq feet. So your fall app you want to put out a 6 month rate. 3.5lbs per 1000. Then come February you can go 2 routes. Apply another 6 month rate or split the 6 month rate in 2, and do a 1.75lb rate in Feb and another in May. I did the 6 month rate the past 2 years and about the only thing that busted though was the Spurge Serge in June/July. I will do the split app next year and see if it blocks the Spurge better next year. And granular products need to be watered in ASAP. Same day or next day preferred.

Question for you, Derek. I put out Dimension and Gallery mid-September last year and lawn looked great almost all winter with no weeds and then about February/March, I had cool season weeds pop up all over (mostly some kind of grass burr). They died with the heat and I'm weed free now because of Feb/May applications. I'm wondering how these weeds "slipped through"? Warm winter? Do you ever put down a December application? Any thoughts would be appreciated.

That's probably Poa Annua you were seeing. It's a PITA. Yes split your apps. Do a 3 month rate September, December, February, May. - Or a 3 month rate September, December then a 6 month rate in February. Depending on rain and a couple other factors the pre-m layer was probably starting to fade before your Feb app last year and the Poa was able to pop. The label will say what the year max rate per 1000sq feet it. Using that you'll be able to calculate your 3 and or 6 month app rates.

UT. I got busy and wasn't able to edit my post prior to your response. One thing I would add is try Prodiamine for your fall/winter apps and switch to Dimension for your spring split apps. They both use the same mode of action, but Prodiamine residual last longer giving you a bit of a buffer. The Dimension will give you a bit of a post emergent on crab in spring if it was to pop. Applying Gallery the same day as the others is a solid plan. Different modes of action between the two.

New guy here to really wanting a decent looking yard. Brand new house that we laid sod down in March. It’s almost an acres worth of yard and I did put down some new sod fertilizer. What steps do I need to take for a better looking yard next year? Sod is Bermuda 419 tiff if that helps and Im really new at this giving a $hit thing so please go easy on me with the descriptions.

43k square feet is going to be a lot of work. You can go the simple Neil Sperry route with 4 applications a year. I have my boss on this schedule to keep it simple and his Bermuda looks good but could be better. Or you can go hard in the paint. Read and follow the Bermuda Bible and you'll have awesome results. There is a Siteone in Prosper. It would probably be worth your time to go by and visit them. Here are a couple of their products I would probably look into. Macro's and Micros. And mow as low and as often as you can. It will encourage the Bermuda to grow out and not up. If you go hard in the paint you will be mowing often. The growth can be insane.
