Yes, I worked roustabout for a Lease Service during the summers when I was in high school. Throwing skids and picking them up was some work. You had to keep up with the crew pusher driving the truck.

Yep I see it pretty regular, laying down and picking up skids so the pipe dont lay on the ground.

I would in a heartbeat....if he could handle it. Lol. Some hard work and it would make them appreciate “the dollar” and what parents have to do to earn some.

I loaded watermelons one summer for one of our neighboring farmers when I spent summers with my
grandparents,...a tractor pulled a flat trailer, tow guys catching and two guys cutting and throwing.
I was a cutter/thrower....I was 13,...30 acres in 2 days, I got $12. This was about 1963-4.

One of my HS football teammates went a summer without showing up at any the "voluntary" weight lifting sessions. Coach was pretty upset with him because he was the only guy on the team that didn't keep up with the summer workout program. Turns out he had spent the summer loading hay for a dairy farmer. Dude came back strong as an ox. Couldn't run for nothing, but he was a beast in the gym.

There's nothing wrong with a little hard work for yutes. Teaches character and is good physically. And if nothing else, it motivates them to find a trade and/or educate themselves.

I too hauled hay every summer back in the 70's for .05 cents a bale.

I did all the manual labor associated will growing up on a farm. Hoe cotton, pick cotton, haul hay, pull corn by hand then after pulling it scoop it into the barn crib. I have hoed cotton all day then hauled hay most of the night. Kids today don’t know what work is. An old high school buddy was building superintendent for a company that put up industrial type buildings. He came to the city where I was living a looked me up. He offered to give my son a job for the summer, he said we will toughen him up a little. My son reported to work the next day and quit before the day was over.

It's not the work he'd be doing that would bother me so much as the company he'd keep in his off hours.

Them two jobs will separate the men from the boys. I Did them both.
