I took it in today and estimates was Minimum of $845 maybe more depending what he found. My question is can I just remove fluid, pump, and make it into a manual steering set up? I started driving with no power steering and it was ok. . My car is not worth much more than mechanic quoted Thx

Ummmm. Simple answer is “no”.
As for the $845? Go somewhere else. The entire rack, lines, and pump shouldn’t be that expensive. It’s likely a pump seal, but could be as simple as a bad hose crimp.

Shouldn’t be more than $200-$300 parts and an hour or so of labor.
