I know this has been discussed millions of times on this forum but help me out. I need to upgrade my trolling motor and was looking at the minn kota terrova. I fish 80% brush 20% timber and will be fishing with my young sons. Will spot lock make a huge difference for me?

Best investment on my boat...I have the Terrova, which is manual deploy with 60" shaft. Manual deploy can be adjusted to the depth you want the motor in the water, which is a big deal to me, especially when fishing shallow, or deep. And the "jog" feature is magic.. `

I think the 3 biggest innovations in crappie fishing as they apply to my fishing style ( probably 90% brush ) are #1 sidescan (for finding brush ) # 2 spotlock # 3 livescope
good luck

It will absolutely be a HUGE DIFFERENCE! For example...you are on a brushpile...son catches a fish and needs some help. You can help him, knowing that your boat is still on the brushpile for your other son to continue fishing. It's great in timber as well...especially submerged stuff. You come over a laydown with several fish on it...spot lock and forget it. Your feet will feel better at the end of the day as well because every minute you are "locked" you are not having to adjust position with your foot I have the Ulterra 80lb and love it.

Keep in mind that even with spot lock, the boat will swing in a current or wind. The troll motor will stay on the spot, but not necessarily the back of the boat.

Thanks for all the replies. BassPro has 10% off right now so figured now is the time to grab one.

My opinion here, spot lock is very nice and makes fishing a lot more enjoyable. I felt when I switched from fortrex to ultrex I did not catch significantly more fish, I usually toss out markers and use the front fish finder. Ultrex allowed me not to think and try so hard to stay on the spot, convenient when you have to tie on a jig and helps a ton when it is windy. Once you get one, it will be too hard to back to one without spotlock.

Just mounted my first TM with spotlock Saturday. Terrova👍 Used today on Fork and wow. Well worth the money. I see no downside. Good In open water to stay on brushpiles etc... but the “game changer” for me is the ability to freakin retie or get a dew from the cooler etc without getting blown off your spot. I have the foot pedal and the remote which is surprisingly handy.

Spot lock is awesome. And the jog feature is great also. Lets you pick apart the pile.
