Is it legal to leave your fishing pole in the water overnight in the rod holder? The reason I ask is because sometimes if I bait my pole and leave it and go to bed I'll wake up and the line will be slacked and sometimes there's a fish on it . I've been doing it for quite awhile but wonder if it's legal. If so do any of y'all do the same

I don't see any problem in it. In a sense, it is just like running setlines (juglines, trotlines, and throwlines). You set them out, then come back later to rebait & pull fish off. My GrandDad used to set out bank poles which he called set hooks. He would let them sit out for awhile or overnight. Then pull the fish off when he would check them.

No idea on the original question.
Along the same lines, anybody have any idea why YoYos are illegal on public water in Texas? I don’t see how that is any different than a limb line or using jugs.

As I recall, it has something to do with danger to swimmers, but I can’t remember for sure.

Because YoYo's were not checked in a timely manner and were found to have too many dead fish hanging from them...

YoYo's pull small fish out of the water, and they die.

I'm glad there are wine drinkers in this world ..... it saves more beer for the rest of us.
