Was at the Dove ramp on Grapevine today. A family backs their ski type boat into the water loaded with young kids and adults .
They start the engine and all heck breaks loose. Smoke starts coming from the engine compartment--n a lot of smoke.
the adults get the kids out of the boat. Called 911 in a few minutes here comes the calvery they put the fire out.
this could have been really bad but no one was hurt.

Just a PSA safety reminder, especially for you inboard guys. Lift those hatches , smell those bilges and run them blowers, and always after fueling. I remember when a boat went sky high on Woody's dock around 1965 in Port A. right after fueling. Didn't check and hit the starters.

Yep. A year or two ago I remember a thread with a boat exploding because of those vapors

Grapevine has an awesome fire boat. Every now and then I see them on the water during the week training/testing the pumps.

It was good see how people at the boat ramp fell into help as it was burning good at one point. The owner of the boat keep a cool head and got those kids to safety

somebody next to them should have pulled their extinguisher and put that thing out before the fire department got there.

I watched it unfold from the water, it appeared some were running to get their fire extinguishers out of their boats then going back to assist. Cool to watch several people offering to help someone in need when things got nasty. Hats off to them. Looked like it was about to be really bad. Glad everyone stayed safe.
