Shelves in my local Academy were 90% empty 5 weeks ago. Went in there a few days ago and now there 90% stocked minus a few hard baits and some terminal tackle. Was a pleasant surprise

This is true and even more an issue because of the virus. I was in BPS two weeks ago and I was shocked at how bare the shelves were, especially for terminal tackle and line. They had a lot of plastics and other lures, but not a lot of popular stuff (6XDs being one example).

In March, I had to get a new cell phone. The phone I wanted (IPhone XR) had two color choices available: red and blue. Even back then, when it first started hitting this country, there was already a shortage of phones. I chose red, by the way, and I hate it. Got a cover for it the same day.

Yet Apple just posted record 3rd Q earnings. eeks

Lots of people buying phones even though they have to sit out in the parking lot to do it. At least around here that is the way the companies are doing it. popcorn

It's a great time to buy from the small local makers.
I've had no problems finding soft plastics and such. Not including the tons I already had stocked up.
There's somebody in the sales area selling lots of plastics for reasonable prices.

I think it has more to do with the 40% increase in fishing licenses this year. More folks are on the water than ever before. Before they can fish, they gotta stock up.

This is what happens when you stop producing in the USA and depend on China and other small countries for everything.

I'm with you when it comes to essential industries such medicine, food, etc...but honestly, I'm not down to pay 3 - 4x's what things (that are already expensive as is) cost now just to make sure they are produced domestically...because some cat wants to make $15.00-$20.00/hour performing unskilled labor. What's the difference in a shortage, and the majority of consumers not being able to afford items even though the stock is plentiful? We have to remember that being a part of the global economy is what drives down prices...

Try some of your locally owned shops. Anglers Pro Tackle and Olson's Pro Am here in Ft Worth had pretty good inventory last couple of times I was in. Way more than Academy.
