Ramps and parks still closed on weekends. No telling how it’s going to be for September. Seems the pleasant peasants of Del Rio have a problem with social distancing and the virus is pretty bad down there.

Yeah I’d be more inclined to say it’s illegals coming over to get treated. And the way it’s being reported I think it’s overblown. Plus being out on a boat is about social distancing as you can get.

All my in-laws live in Del Rio and the numbers are mostly from the locals. Social distancing is just something they are having a hard time understanding down there and the numbers for the most part are real.

the idea of closing the only boat ramps on the lake on the weekend is nuts they say its because folks trash the areas open to the public if that is the case law enforcement should arrest the offenders an not punish the law abiding taxpayers that work all week to go to the lake on the weekend an enjoy the parks we taxpayers pay for.

We have friends at the hospital down there and I've got buddies that are NPS rangers. Most of the spread is from VV county residents. There are a ton of multi-generational families and the younger members brought it home to the older ones. The border also played a part, but not as much as everyone thinks. As for NPS, a lot of their staff tested positive and it got to the point they had no maintenance personnel to move the courtesy docks which is a frequent occurrence. And Diablo is not set up right now where they can just open the ramps (they have plans to build gates to be able to close the picnic areas, same for Blackbrush - when open...). As for the littering - the Rangers aren't on-viewing it so who do they write a ticket to? And they can't arrest anyone because the sheriff and GEO aren't taking new inmates. I want the lake to be open, my boat is just sitting there and I can't go during the week. But DR is still a hotspot, even made usatoday news. I have heard there are discussions about opening up on the weekends again but it is dependent on the cases tapering off. https://www.usatoday.com/story/news...here-everyone-knows-everyone/5559241002/

State Law enforcement down there keep getting called to Austin and elsewhere to work riots and protests. Those are not on TV, they don't fit the current news narrative. Easier to close a park or two than to have law enforcement that is already stretched thin tied up babysitting a bunch of family picnics. It stinks but it is reality right now. You could put a kayak in 60 miles up the Pecos at Pandale crossing and paddle into the lake if you needed to
See you on the lake and have a great day!
