Man, I just don't get it. I don't even live over there and this whole thing chafes my backside. Once again, if I am reading this right; GBRA wants to own and maintain everything with homeowners paying for it. Wasn't GBRA supposed to have "maintained" in the past? It seems to me that GBRA took the money and did no maintaining. Now that the non-maintained dams have failed, they want the homeowners to pay for it.

Has this officially gone to civil court? How can any judge let GBRA get out of performing their obligations?

Because the governor said GBRA had no duty to maintain the dams.

The way I read it is the property owners "gave in" to the idea as the article claims it was an "agreement," so there is nobody to blame but themselves, as they took on the entire 100% expense from building to maintenance.
The property owners pretty much bought themselves the lakes.
The property owners should form their own governing body if they haven't already!

Just one more cast!

The wealthy property owners made the offer to tax themselves to pay for the repairs. They couldn't wait till the case worked it's way thru the courts. I can see the urgency of getting the repairs, but they screwed all the lakes below McQueeny by making this offer. GBRA simply sets back now and says tax or lose your lake. GBRA had the gall to propose to Gonzales County to tax every property owner in the county to fix Lake Gonzales and Lake Wood knowing full well it would never pass.

Because the governor said GBRA had no duty to maintain the dams.

So, does the same thing apply to every other dam in Texas? Does the SJRA, the LCRA and others get this phony job of maintaining but not maintaining?

No, they are real river authorities.

I hear you. Some of GBRA's lakes are "only fish if you live there" but publicly funded. Only in America.
