Has anybody used any of the Shimano DC series reels? I’m trying to teach my girlfriend to cast a baitcaster n ran across these. Are they as easy to cast as said? I don’t mind teaching her but if I can make it easier with one of these reels then I think it would be worth it. Any opinions would be greatly appropriated.

I have a couple Shimano DC's and a Daiwa Tatula SV.

I prefer the Shimano and it is easy to set up and use.

It makes a whirring sound when you send one down range but that is normal.

They work better on longer casts as opposed to trying to "pitch" them on shorter casts.

If you were close to Lufkin / Nacogdoches I would let you try them out.

I have a new Diawa Tatula, and really like it. I was chunking baits everywhere the other day and using practically no thumb at all. I told myself that, heck, the wife can even throw this with no backlash. Sooo, I called her over and said “try this one”. The result was the absolute worst backlash I ever saw. I had to cut all that new line off the reel. My point I’d that even if you can’t backlash it, that doesn’t mean she can’t.

I’ve got a Curado DC and 2 SLX DC reels. Pretty new to baitcasters and I love the extra help. They weren’t my first reels but I’m a fan. Can throw lighter stuff further and less wind issues. Helped a bunch today on a windy day at Lake Fork. Might not be worth it on a reel your going to mainly pitch with.

That being said, you can still backlash them in a heartbeat like any.
