I am new to the area, and looking for some good bank fishing spots on Lake Lewisville to take the kids carp fishing. I'm use to fishing the deep lakes of the White River system in Arkansas and Missouri, so Lake Lewisville is quite a bit different from what I am use to. I carp fish both with a fly rod and euro style.

Any tips for the area are most welcome.

Welcome to Texas and welcome to TFF. Lots of good people here. I do a lot of carp/buff fishing with the kids around here too. Currently all my hot spots are overrun with turtles and small catfish. Lewisville Lake has some huge buffs and carp. One location I have had some success is at the old dam. Do not fish the rocky side. Fish the sandy side as you walk down to the left. You have to park in a small area, then walk down. This area is kid friendly too.

Thank you so much. The few times I have been out carpin recently I've ended up with small channel cats, so I know what you mean.

The catfish have been crazy this year. Worse than perch. I mostly use corn for bait, but last night I switched to gummy fruit snacks which slowed down all the nibbles but still caught 2 catfish. bang

JJ4MEL,

I want to commend you for giving the OP such explicit advice on a decent spot. There is this really strong taboo on other forums about sharing locations which I personally don't understand. As far as nuisance species, turtles have been my issue. I no longer pre-bait with corn...I use rabbit feed...and I find Starburst minis, cut if half with a single kernel corn, work pretty well on my mini (sz 14) hair rigs when casting. (I like to use my fly rods...can't do a trout trip right now). I still get bothered by turtles, but not as bad as when I was throwing corn out. I can tell by the bite when it's a turtle...carp run hard...turtle just sit there and chomp. I let them, wait for things to quiet down, and re-bait. They usually don't hook themselves, but they'll wait for you to cast in the same spot.

Thank you Kaboboom! I have no problem sharing a spot or 2. Especially to anyone new to the area. Gotta start somewhere.

The reason us eurocarpers are so careful with our spots is because so many bowfisherman frequently lurk our posts on here and Facebook. Before you know it, you post a spot with big fish, and there are boats with spotlights all over it. Spots on big lakes aren’t a big deal. But the smaller bodies of water can get shot out pretty quick.

Well, I'm not a eurocarper. I am a family guy that enjoys taking the kids out to catch carp and buffs. OP sounds the same so I shared a spot as did someone did with me when I wanted to start targeting these fish. Tight lines all!

Don't worry, I am catch and release only, but I do understand your point.

No offense intended or anything. You’re always free to share your spots of course. I wouldn’t dare tel you what to do. I just usually keep my spots more quiet. I also really enjoy fishing ponds and small waters. So it’s different. Lewisville is huge.

You know, I have not seen a bow "fisherman" in a long time. All things being what they are, I'd say the carp are close to places like the 121 pier these days ... try shooting arrows around there. I do see buffalo in the meat section of WINCO though, so you bow "hunters" can cash in these days!
