You should have enough cash to cover your short term liabilities. 6-12 months of living expenses. Outside of that, I agree it should be working for you in some sort of investment vehicle. Banks certainly are not paying any interest right now.

I would cash out of the stock market today and buy back in right before the election.
Double your shares in the same Companies for "long term investing".
That's why cash is King, to capitalize on big swings in the economy.
The income/gains tax Ill pay on cashing out negates what I would make.
