Does anyone just run mono for everything anymore? I'm trying to get serious in bass fishing (grew up cat fishing and saltwater fishing) but it's hurting my head trying to remember all the combinations of line type, gear ratio, rod power/action. Feel like I'm going to need to label my rods in the boat.

Yep, I use mono. Couldn't get along with flourocarbon. I will use braid in heavy cover.
To whom much is given, much is required.

I use copoly. It's better than old school mono. I tried fluoro but wasn't impressed.
P-Line CX Premium or CXX are good starting points.

Yes, I still use mono for everything. I use Berkley Big Game 12-15 lb for most of my bass fishing at the lakes. I use various 6-8 lb mono for my spinning reels for the river bass or crappie at lakes.

Suffix Elite for me on everything except for frog and punch rigs. Power Pro braid for those two rod/reels.

I use mono for everything. No you dont need braid and you dont need Flourocarbon. Best line I ever used was Berkly AN40. Now, just Trilene Big Game for everything. No, I dont have problems catching fish, losing fish, breaking off fish.
If it was a stupid idea, you can be assured I have already done it

Do they still make AN40 ? I used it many years ago and liked it back then. I think there are much better lines out now but it was good back many years ago. Big Game is a good cheap monofilament line if you are looking for just a monofilament line. I like copolymer lines better like McCoys Mean green and P Line CXX. Ande was another good line but hard to find now unless you order online.

Only mono I use anymore is on topwaters, it just has too much memory and stretch, but floats for topwaters.

I’ve gone back to mono on most of my rods. I’ve got Abrasyx flouro on 1 rod and braid with mono leader on a couple of spinning rods I use for redfish, but mostly use straight mono. I got tired of breaking off fish on flourocarbon.I do have 1 rod with 20lb Abrasyx -I don’t have issues with breakage with it, but don’t really like the castability. I tried straight braid on the spinning rods, but seemed to get fewer strikes. Fishing for redfish, I was getting almost 4x the number of fish on 17lb big game vs 50lb braid.
I mostly use 17lb Big Game.- it casts great and is very tough. I have 2 rods rigged with McCoy’s Mean Green copolymer, but don’t like it as much as Big Game and will switch back when I need to respool.

All my saltwater rods, which I originally setup for Florida waters, are 20lb braid with fluoro leader because I do think the clear waters there make a difference on line.

I still use Big Game 15 or 20 lb for topwaters, spinnerbaits, chatterbait, & deep diving cranks.
