Hey guys! Going to be headed to Rockport the first weekend of August. Im a novice with inshore so I was wanting to know if this is the time of year more/bigger reds and specs will be moving in shallower? We will be pier fishing at night most of the time, but was curious. Thanks in advance for the help!

Reds love shallow water and they will be there most of the year if bait/pressure allow it. They are definitely there this time of year. If the pier has lights that will be the focus area but don't ignore the shoreline either. Reds and trout will be where the bait is. Fish when there's current and most of the time you'll catch more.

Find the bait, find the fish. We were seeing nice trout pushing bait up shallow against grass the last time I was down there.

Awesome! Is the fall typically a better time of year at the coast? I have always heard that the wind calms down a bit more once August hits in comparison to June or July.

Depends on what you're fishing for. I typically go for reds and October is my favorite month to fish for reds. They're actively feeding and the weather is cooler. You just have to factor in cold fronts. September is also good.

Someone told me about a hotel with a private lighted pier that was good fishing. Anyone familiar with this?

There are a few I know off the top of my head.

The Lighthouse Inn, Hunt's Castle, and Reel 'Em Inn on the Bay.

Laguna Reef! That's where we will be staying. I think it goes out about 100 yards. It's a nice pier.

Like everyone is saying, find the bait and you'll find the fish
