I wonder if those receiving unemployment had their income tax withheld or are they going to get one heck of a nasty wake up call next April 15? Even then, the 10% they withhold might not be enough...

No wonder some people don't want to go back to work.

I'm still shaking my head over how many folks received a stimulus check who weren't laid off.

I am going to guess that half or close to it dont know unemployment is taxable. I read an article yesterday about people on unemployment not going back to work. If they are offerred a job that is 90% of previous pay they have to takd it or lose unemployment benes. Also the state piece is based on pay when laid off so a McDonalds worker wont get $1121/week.

Heck, gov sent out 1.4 billion to deceased individuals!

Now they are debating about forgiving the loans.

Our school bus drivers here receive unemployment during the summer months. Not me, I work another job. Been working the two jobs for over 3 years now. Haven’t drawn unemployment in that time. I will continue working the two jobs until my body says not too

Wife and I sent our stimulus money to my son and family. We have not missed any work and are fine without it. I have never received any unemployment or welfare type money always worked for what we have.

Unemployment isn't that easy to qualify for. You have to have worked most of the previous year. School bus drivers are a good example.

Also to get the maximum Texas pays on unemployment you have to have made a high level of income the previous year.

The $600 comes from the Feds and expires at the end of July. The State portion is based on a set number of weeks based on your previous years earnings in different quarters.

Some probably made more, but for the most part it is designed to pay less to help the unemployed until they find another job.

No, but let's say a person was making $10/hr when laid off...that's $400/wk...The federal subsidy of $600 is already 1.5 times more than what they were making....plus the benefit from Texas depending on where they fall on the scale. Why would you want to go back to work? Geez. That's ridiculous.


By the way, I just saw where Texas' minimum unemployment benefit is $69/wk. WTH? I mean, just dang....I don't want it to be so that you have no incentive to find work, but I think back to 2008 and 2009 with the high gas prices, high food prices thanks to the increase in gas....and WOW.

You would need to be laid off from a $52,100 a year job to draw the Texas max of $521. Plus the federal $600 gets you to $1,121.
A minimun wage worker would get $156 from Texas plus $600 from federal. The $600 runs out next week.
