So I was at Buchanan this last weekend and chummed several areas with range cubes. When it came time to fish the spots I used a well know punch bait while my buddy used thawed frozen mussels from HEB. He caught as many as I did and didn't have the down time baiting his hook. At $2.00 a bag for, I don't know....30 mussels...thought it was a great option. Tight lines!

If you chum the right spot, there are times when catfish will hit almost anything. I often use bacon. Sometimes when I fish with range cubes, I have to catch lots of catfish before the 20 pound buffalo come in and run them off. roflmao

I have read that catfish love mussels. I haven't been able to find any yet, however.

Grew up fishing the Coosa river in north Alabama as a kid. Best catfish bait bar none was dead freshwater mussels. In the summer, when they die, they float. We would swim from bank to get them, or ride against current in a boat.
They stink!
Bream and even bass liked them too.

Tight lines, stay safe.
