Premier Yamaha of San Antonio. Do NOT go get your boat/motor worked on there!!!!!!!

It will come out of shop for annual servuce looking like this. They either dropped cowling whole it was being taken off or dropped something in cowling while it was off.

I normally have a tuff skins cover over it but was waxing it during down time with Covid and noted this 6 weeks or so after I picked it up
From Being service by them. Motor only have 19.2-19.6 hours at time of service!

Immediately sent pictures to manager/owner (Daryl) and also left message for service manager who was off to get back with me. Weeks went by. No response. Then reestablished contact with them. Service manager (Terry) said they were finding out some issues they had during that time frame with their staff and would get back to me later. Weeks went by again.

Today’s final response. My problem not theirs. See for yourself. BEWARE.

buy a new one, take them to jp court for triple damages.

no lawyers allowed. take the cowl with you and print 3 copies of any emails, get some emails if you don't already have some by asking why it is your problem.

that will be about your only recourse

I sure would. That's B.S. mad

You might try and get a no cost consult with an attorney (most do) then ask him/her what they'd charge you to write Premier Yamaha a threatening letter of suing them.
I would also report your issue to Yamaha Corporate and let them know how their dealer screwed you.

I hate to say this, but if you did not notice it for 6 weeks after you picked it up, you are going to have a hard time proving the damage occurred while the boat was at the shop. Maybe I am missing something in your post though. An alternative - watch a few fiberglass how to videos and tackle the job yourself. Fiberglass work like this is messy and tedious, but not hard or difficult.

Painting is more difficult if you want it done flawlessly (it looks like you take meticulous care of your motor).

Still very poor leadership if the shop really did this. They should own up and repair it. Maybe they will work with you? Who knows?

he said he keeps it covered with a tuffskinz. mine doesn't come off if I take the cowl off so I wouldn't see something like that either.

I agree with not noticing initially but would you have taken off your motor cover hat stays on unless I do
My semi annual wax? What u can tell you is that I waxed it late August if last fall because we were selling our home and moved to an spearmint until
New place fine being built. No age then. It sat in storage until I moved it to new place in last week of December. Had a custom add in to garage so it fits straight in. Took to them maybe around 10-12 February. For it out about 10 days later then noticed in 3d week of March and have been dealing with it since.

Just don’t think it’s right. Prolly file on insurance I’ve never had to
use in 30 plus years of boat ownership. Guess I’m due

Also file a complaint online with the Better Business Bureau! I've had to do this a couple of times and the issue was fixed each time.

I understand it was covered and totally agree that if someone at the shop did this and did not fess up, very poor ethics on his/her part. Also, poor leadership on the part of the shop if they did not dig into it a little to see what happened and rectify the situation. Mistakes do indeed happen. I have to think that if it did happen there, the tuff skin cover would have been dirty/marked a little as that is not a small impact there. The technician would have had to spend a little time and effort covering his/her tracks.

At the same time though, that does not change the fact that it has been 6 weeks. Tough situation.

If I was the shop owner, I would repair it even if I was 100% sure it was NOT my fault to avoid the hassle of the BBB, posts on forums like this one, etc. Maybe one of the men you mentioned is on here and will rethink their position.If not, like was said above, BBB, boating forums, local news, etc.

Well. They won't respond to my email sent. So I am calling the BBB n the am. I ordered the two cowling parts from SIM Yamaha today. I was shocked that I was able get the two items I needed and didn't have to buy whole new cowling.

But rest assured I will continue to promote this issue and lack of response. Not exactly how I would Expect customer service to go at a major Yamaha dealership. A report is headed to Yamaha Corporate also.

BBB complaint filed and accepted yesterday by BBB. I asked for reimbursement of cost of parts. Will see.......

Received an interesting email from owner/GM today from Premier Yamaha. I simply responded please direct any statement to BBB who has been notified.

From email....

I was kind of taken back on getting an email from you with the time lapse of when you picked it up to the time you contacted us. It was weeks. My guys if they break something they immediately come and tell me. I have ethical people here that I trust and respect. You had impact with the motor down. When a boat is moved around the motor is in the tilt position which the lower unit would more than likely be hit first. I do not know why you are trying to get a free cowling out of this dealership. That is wrong. Im sure you have insurance which you need to file a claim. We did not do this. I will follow your post that you have posted. I wont let this go on without our side of the story. It went down as exactly as you stated....

After months of inquiry I finally got that response.

I have issues with people questioning my integrity. Served for almost 21 years in AF and again another 13 years and counting in Federal Service. I have the upmost integrity and expect same of others.

Truly laughable.... should have parts that I purchased myself shortly. I guess the cowling never comes off to complete spark plug changes or oil change.....?

Thanks for nothing and not being a stand up Yamaha service center. Good luck to anyone who
Uses them for any yamaha or boating related issue. I won’t be back.

The owner probably doesn't really know if the damage occurred while the boat was at his shop. If it did, one of his technicians has no integrity. This reminds me of something that happened to my son about two years ago. He is a Certified Technician for a very high end automobile manufacturer and works at a dealership for this manufacturer in another state. I was visiting him one weekend and he and his apartment mate were swapping stories as they both worked at the same dealership. The roommate was talking about a car that came in for service. He ran the VIN and found out that he had replaced two of the tires previously on this exact car. Not unusual as this is not your normal Ford/Chevy/Toyota house. When he was looking at the tires, he noticed that he had mounted the wrong size tire on the car previously. Rather than fessing up, he drove a nail into the sidewall of the tire and warrantied it out. Absolutely true story.

I asked him why he did that. He said that he didn't want to get into trouble with the boss. I told him that my integrity was not for sale and asked him which was worse - fessing up to an honest mistake or having your boss find out that you have no integrity? He did not answer.

My Son left that 'stealership' shortly thereafter and now works at another dealership, but one that puts integrity ahead of profits. I was very proud of him for leaving.

Now, having told that true story, I am NOT saying that the Yahama dealership necessarily has folks like that, only that it does indeed occur. In my line of work, integrity is assumed. I have seen it violated twice in 30+ years. Both times, the offender got a one way ticket to my office an left under escort by security without their computer, badge, Amex, etc.
