Think throwing deer corn out every day for a week in one general area will do much good? New to carp fishing and they're fun, but I'm only catching 3-5 lb'ers

It's best to boil the deer corn before you throw it to the fisheys. It's too hard otherwise and may cause them some digestive issues. Better still would be to add some flavoring like strawberry kool aid or vanilla to the corn as it boils. I boil mine at least an hour. This should soften the corn enough to use it on a hair rig or as a hook bait. I use the flavored corn as my bait, since they are used to it.

3 to 5 pounders are great fun on light tackle. I would try to bait an area every day for two to three days in a row and then fish that area. Baiting an area once a week will help, but not as much as baiting for a few days before fishing. Range cubes work well also and are easy to get and takes no preparation. In fact, I almost always bait an area with range cubes now.

1+ on chumming with range cubes instead of corn. After you chum with cubes for a few days then try this to catch some bigger fish.

Turtles are messing with me as well when I pre-bait or bait with deer corn. I'm making some changes, but haven't found the perfect answer. I always pre-bait at the beginning of my session, and based on a recommendation I got here, I bought some rabbit feed from Tractor Supply, and I really like it. It's less than an inch long, and about the thickness of spaghetti. It's about twice the cost of deer corn, but it's ready to go. If I could figure out how to bait my hair rigs with it, I would, but it would probably dissolve too fast. I know it works well because I occasionally spook the fish in my swim, and there are many, just kind of hunkered down and feeding on it. I'm not sure if the turtles see the corn better than the carp in my muddy water, but that's what I suspect. So today, I'm going to try baiting with cut pieces of licorice...both colors. I'm hoping the turtles can't find it but the carp can smell it. Like I said, I know I'm casting into a pack of them after I toss a few handfuls of the rabbit feed, and wait about an hour starting at first light.

Corn and bread crumbs are going to draw in the turtles in my experience. I fish particles in a pva bag, mixed with a little pellet and crushed boilies, and I’m fighting with turtles way less often than when I was fishing breadcrumb method with corn.

Range cubes work well. Rabbit pellets are another good option as they will break down much faster than range cubes. Calf Manna is also a good option, although a bit more pricey. As a rule of thumb, turtles don't like to work hard for food. They are lazy and do what is easy. They cannot feed on tiny particles/crumbs that break down well. It may draw them initally, but when the particles break down super small, it tends to frustrate them.

Agreed with ALL the above. Turtle and small channel cats are just taking over my carp holes. Next time out I will be using rabbit pellets for chum and dark colored fruit snacks for bait.

Always glad to help. I discovered its usefulness by trial and error myself. The Manna pro brand is really good, but i've done well off the brands carried in walmart too.
