I tried Wheeler last summer without success. Zero bream but did catch a couple decent bass trolling a crank in open water. I was using small jigs to target the bream so maybe live bait will work better for you. Very clear water so use light line.

Never fished Wheeler Branch. Since it has clear water use as stated above light line. I would also use live worms as your bait. I fish a lot of water bodies that have crystal clear water and I have better results fishing without a bobber. I fish off the bottom. Also fish around grass beds and drop offs this time of year. Side Note: Let us know how you do! Would love to see a post about Wheeler Branch !

Wheeler Branch has some massive bluegill, but don’t tell anybody. ![[Linked Image]](https://texasfishingforum.com/forums/pics/userpics/2020/07/full-107020-59555-d3a46fcb_6ff6_45c1_ac3c_ee83f63a2e18.jpeg) The lake is really clear and the fish are deep right now. You will find them in 15 to 25 feet of water. I use a whole night crawler on a double hook rig. I use a 3/4 oz egg sinker held above the hooks with a split shot. Fish along the weed edge or around deep brush. If you don’t get a bite in a few minutes then change locations. I have caught them in almost every area of the lake. If you find them you can catch several. I caught 10 bluegill between 8 and 9.5 inches last time I was there. Oh and I usually Plnor (Pole and Line No Reel) fish with 20 pound line so the line size doesn’t seem to affect them. I use the heavy line for the 10 pound plus bass and catfish that live there.

I will say that Wheeler Branch is a strange lake. One day the bite will be on and crazy, then the next day you may not catch a fish.
