Went out for a few hours Saturday afternoon and really was not expecting much more than a sunburn but caught about 15 in the heat of the day. Figured I'd hit them a little earlier today and got there about 9am but they didn't really start biting good till about 1pm. If not for that umbrella I would have scooted on home to the A/C. Wound up with a limit of 10.5 and 11 in. fish but Martin Creek crappie are a bit on the puny side. Wasn't much left after cleaning them. Caught them on timber in 26 ft. water. They were holding at about 18 ft. Seems like the best bite came on anything that looked like "monkey milk" whether Bobby Garland or Bonehead stump bugs and it had to be moving to get a thump. Believe this is a first for me getting a sand bass and crappie at the same time. Probably won't get much more fishing in before fall but I'll be checking in on the forum to see how ya'll are doing.

I went by Martin Creek Lake on Friday just reminiscing since I lived 4 miles from it when I was younger.

Also stopped out at the Sabine River bridge since I lived 1 mile from it for several years when I was a teen. cheers

The Sabine was abnormally high for the middle of Summer but the memories of spending countless hours on her banks was worth the stop! woot

I like Martin Creek as there are very few boats on it except for the bass tourneys January and February. Was out there Saturday and saw one jet ski all afternoon. I think most people don't believe fish will bite on a hot water lake in the summer...lol.

Good to see you are still after em. I’ve been fishing daylight till 1130 and on the trailer by noon. Too hot for me after that. Definitely Looking forward to cooler days this fall as well. Keep safe out there.
