Just a bad connection, oxidized connectors or something.

That's what I been using, switched the plug and now that one is acting up, some I'm done with those plugs for Trolling motors.

That's the trolling motor I have, it has been a good one!

You will get a few years from ppl any plug before you start to have issues. Save some headaches and go the breaker hardwire route. Mine would always smoke when I had to be on the motor constantly in the wind.

I've had the same Marinco 30 amp twist lock plug installed for 15 years. Knock on wood, no issues yet.

I do unplug it after every trip and every few years clean the contacts and lube with dielectric grease.

Wow! That's a pricey one. My Ranger came "hard wired" with basically two bus-bars enclosed in a plastic housing - very low-tech and unlikely to cause issues. I do the disconnect before charging by turning the breaker off.

I had no idea the trolling motor needed to be disconnected while charging. I had a minnkota Maxxum pro for years and now have. A Garmin Force that were never unplugged and stayed on an automatic charger all of the time when not in use.

I used to leave mine plugged in when I had “older style” trolling motors. The newer stuff, apparently, is sensitive to voltage levels and are recommended to be disconnected during charging.

I left my Ultrex connected and powered up while charging once....now the blue power light doesn’t work. Which isn’t necessarily a bad thing. It’s too bright at night.

I think manuals have said to do so for a number of years now. Your Force could be different, but I doubt it. This is one reason for the popularity of circuit breakers with a manual trip button. You get a breaker plus a means to easily open the power circuit for charging. (Most allow that disconnecting one lead is sufficient to isolate the TM.)

While some get away with charging with the TM connected, consider that something going wrong could get expensive, or at the minimum mess up a fishing trip.
I even isolate my outboard while charging, though I don't think Mercury says I have to. I do it because a lighting strike surge on my AC wiring could get to an item via the charger and cost some major $$$.

Newer T/M's with digital controls have circuit boards that will be susceptible to voltage spikes and surges. It's probably best to unplug them.

Definitely going inline/no plug with one of those easily resettable circuit breakers
My Minnkota Circuit breaker doesn’t have a lever or button on the front to manually break the circuit easily while charging

New circuit breaker should arrive today

I definitely see some oxidation on both the positive and negative wire (taped them off)

Battery Tender is top of the line for sure. Here's a Marinco that's is a bit cheaper and which I've been running the last 4 years with no issues.
