Fished a tournament on Lavon yesterday and there were dozens of nice crappie floating near the trestle. They were being washed in from the main lake due to the wind direction. Any ideas what caused this. They all appeared very fresh and all appeared still alive but floating on their sides. Any ideas what caused this. No way they had been caught and released.

No idea what causes it but I had a big crappie just float up to the surface a few feet from the boat during a tournament on Cypress once. I wasn't catching any bass so I just assumed that it died laughing.

Contact the nearest TPWD office and let them know. Could be a disease issue. Can't really do anything about it but if they can get a live specimen showing symptoms to a diagnostic lab they may be able to figure out what is causing it.

It's hot and lots of fish will die in the Texas heat, or the lake could have the covids
