I just recently bought a fishing boat and live right between the two (10-20 mins from Lewisville and 20-30 from raybob). If you had to choose one for crappie fishing which would you choose and why? Looking to put in time learning a lake for the first time. I've fished Ray Roberts for crappie and done ok, but never fished Lewisville for crappie. Just catfish there.

Lewisville is not producing. Been out there 3 weekends with very little to show. I can see them on LS but no takers. I have no idea what's going on. Hit RR first, may produce alot better than Lew.

In my experience RR is a minnow lake.

I have had little luck on RR without a minnow.

Sure I can catch them with a jig, but with a minnow the bite is usually better on RR in my experience on it.

I fish jigs 99.9% of the time and have 13 years of fishing exclusively for Crappie.

I live right next to Lewisville and RR and would rather drive 90 minutes to Tawokini or Fork then fish either right here next to my house.

I will fish them occasionally, but if I'm going fishing it's usually Tawakoni or Fork.

The last time I was on the lake was when I took my older son and my grandson fishing on Fork June 15th.

My work schedule has been packed.

Mom fell while out walking their dogs and tore her rotator cuff and needed surgery.
She has been on the mend for a good month.

Dad has a double hernia that needs surgery with a robot and the day before his surgery was when all elective surgeries got canceled again.

He is doing as little as possible.

One of my coworkers tested positive for Covid and I had close contact so I'm on quarantine through the 21st which basically is like being on home arrest. No symptoms so far knock on wood.

Living vicariously through others who are able to slay some Crappie at the moment.

My older son went with a buddy of his from work and they got a double limit on Lavon this morning on trees all submerged using Livescope. White and Chartreuse was the ticket.

I haven't been on Tawokini since May and they were not on the bridge yet. We got ours on Timber when we did fish Tawokini.

I live about 1/2 mile from Lewisville. Fish it constantly for Crappie and can normally catch plenty of fish. I only use jigs and do quite well. Average day is about 5 hours and will average about 30-40 fish and about half legal fish.
Want to fish RayBob more, but have a ton of effort into Lewisville. I figure that if I can do good here, I can do all right on most other bodies of water.
Just got live scope in June, so will be doing some trips to RayBob to hone my timber skills. Biggest reason I fish mostly on Lewisville is no travel time yields more fishing time.
In your situation, I think I would do Robert's most often. If for no other reason than timber insurers no wake boats and the village idiots on Lewisville.

Side imaging and work structure in 12-20 fow is where I would start. After you get use tto using, I would invest in a good crappie guide for a day to see how to apply logic to what you are seeing.

I'm a jig fisherman myself. I just don't like paying for live bait lol I may try my hand at cast netting small shad of something and see how that works. I'll probably stick to those two lakes and occasionally venture out to lavon for something a little more active just for time's sake.



If it wasn't so far I'd have to go check myself lol



I'm in a similar boat. I've got quite a few friends who fish Lavon, but the drive to Lewisville/RR allows for an earlier fishing day, less driving, etc. You usually have the most luck on timber/brush piles? TPWD suggests bridges in Lewisville, but you know how reliable their website is lol
