I am just getting into crappie, and find it to be a lot of fun. Still have A LOT to learn.

When you pull up on a brush pile, how long will you fish it without success before moving on?

How often should you catch one to consider it worth staying?

If you pull up and fish it without success, do you try changing colors (and if so, how many times) before moving?

What if your are getting bumps, but not hook sets, is that a color issue, or are they just not active?

What is happening to me, I pull up and usually get hit 3 or 4 times in the first 5 or so minutes, might catch one or two, and then it slows down to a crawl. Should I stay, try a different jig, or move on?

A lot depends on if you have another spot to move to. On lakes I fish regularly I will move fairly quick if no action. 10 to 15 minutes. It is not unusual to catch several and then it stops. Move and maybe hit it again later,
Good luck.

Won’t stay long without getting hit, if you are getting hit but missing them may try a smaller bait. When they quit sometimes changing colors may produce a few but more than likely its time to go.

If I am not catching a keeper every 5 minutes , I don't stay long, 15 minutes max. I will usually try a color or size switch if getting bites
but not hooking. If all I am getting is brim bites ( tappity tappity tap ) I go deeper or larger bait.
Seems like only catfish are holding at the bottom of the piles lately.

Always looking for the spot with active fish. Livescope is such a great tool . you can skip piles not holding fish , or fish that do not
react to your bait. I am surprised at how far a crappie will come out of the pile to investigate a pitched bait. ( won't always eat)

last trip , they would come out 5 ft horizontal and 3 ft vertical. They would eat it only half the time,

good luck

If I don't have any action in 10 minutes, and I can see fish on Live Scope, then its time to start changing things up. I start changing-colors, sizes, add scent, & go deeper. If that doesn't produce any keeper fish, then I go find a new spot. It can very frustrating to see fish checking out out bait and not hitting it.

I've found over the last six months with Livescope -- there are plenty a fish, they aren't always on the mood to hit a jig. bang

Right on about the LVS.

All of the above is very helpful to those of us new to the Livescope thing. I don’t have it yet, but I’m getting there. Thanks for that !

Thanks. Makes me feel like im on the right track. It helps to know that it is common to get hit and then it shuts down. Need to get more piles marked and the guts to drop $2500 on a livescope.

I fish fast this time of year, no bites or keepers in 5 minutes and I’m gone. I cannot stress the importance of fish small baits this time of year, I rarely use anything over 1.25”.

I doubt I stay there that long but I move alot and also use small baits this time of year. 1/8 oz hand ties on Limits Tackle heads will be tied on the next couple months I bet!
