When they come up and look like they could swallow a tennis ball ,, I go for the net. I did swing a 2 lb crappie into the boat a couple of trips back.

I've learned my lesson the hard way -- now I always have a net on the boat.

I don’t own a net. With the right setup you can just swing em in. I have found that more got off trying to get them in the net compared to just swinging them in

Hooks can rip out easily, so swinging isn't just about tackle strength - it's about tissue strength in the fish, and you can't change that. Flounder are the same way, and we rarely lose one when the netter is efficient and experienced.

Their paper thin mouths is why it’s best to swing them in for me. You know what a crappie does when it get to the top? It jumps and flops around giving them more of a chance to rip the hook out. By swinging them in in one motion, they don’t have a chance. This is just my opinion.

swing em,....unless you are using 6 pound test or less... 20 pound PP braid with a 12 pound Trilene mono leader about 15' long, no problem. `

We sling them in usually, but I also will use the net depending on the size.
I've lost my fair share not netting them.
I've had some get off right as I got the net under them and without the net the fish would have been lost.
I can tell you that all the Crappie Guides I have fished with get the net every time.
Probably like everything in fishing and it really boils down to personal preference.
Swing them or net them whatever works for you.
Tight Lines to all.

When the really, really big ones come to top and roll to go back down .... you better have the net under them or you will never see them again!
