I have caught them at various depths during the summer, from shallow to deep. I think a lot will depend on the water's oxygen levels. Maybe someone else will chime in with more info. Also during the summer I tend to think about fishing only the coolest hours. Morning, evening, and night, unless you get a rare cloudy summer day.

You can catch them shallow early but typically they will be plentiful in areas that are next to deep water. Twenty to 25 feet deep is my magic depth in the summer, depending on the depth of the thermocline. Bite rate generally drops off greatly after 10 am.

Thanks for the replies. I think Ill get up at at 530 omorrow and try. Im using panko packbait and it has been working well. For baiting purposes, since panko dissolves rather quickly, is it best to bait the area Im fishing the morning of fishing? It seems if I do it the night before the fish would leave when its gone.
