I'm looking at an Island Hopper setup for my FF Moken 14 with a 35lb thrust salt water / fresh water motor. Has anyone here used one of these? How secure is the setup when rail mounted? It looks like a very easy to attach & remove kit. Any recommendations, hints, or faults that I may need to know about this system before dropping the dime?

I'm also looking at outrigger floats and would appreciate any information except training wheel jokes wink

I don't have or never have had an Island Hopper TM but have had a MK trolling motor on a kayak before. The battery will determine how much you use the TM and determine the success of your project. If you get a lithium 80 ah or 100 ah battery it's going to work great. If not you'll get tired of lugging around a 65 lb. battery and realize how much it weighs down the kayak (depending on your size it could max out your kayaks weight capacity). That said if you go the lithium battery route combined with the island hopper motor you're looking at the same cost if not more than a Bixpy which is far superior to any island hopper TM system. I recommend going with a Bixpy.

The previous reply was removed by the OP. I apologize for being rude and not just dismissing the above post.

I think you took what Jerry said the complete wrong way.

Questioned asked, answered with no daggers, What happened?
I agree and didn't see reason for dissent. 🥶

I agree with Jerry, you'll get tired of lugging that 68lb battery around. Plus you can't run it completely out. I've used batteries on a kayak, 2 man boat before. They really weigh things down. Plus the 35lb trolling motor isn't much and only has 3 speeds.

Folks,

I do wish to mention that I asked a question (straight forward so I thought) Then I received a reply that did not answer my question and basically put me on the defensive by telling me "Even though I have never owned or even used the kit you are asking about, your line of reasoning is wrong even though I know nothing about the concept project you are considering or the materials your thinking about using". He did make some valid points and I credit him with that. But nothing in his reply came close to answering my actual question and rather he shot down my idea with a "Lets start with everything you are planning is wrong." type of answer. I know I should have just ignored it and I was wrong to allow it to trigger me.

I know it's no excuse for my being rude but both my wife and I are in multiple high risk groups and have been diagnosed and are sick with covid 19. My daughter is a medical professional and is taking time off from work to care for us rather than admitting us to separate hospitals due to our health care plans. Her employers are giving her hell and threatening her job if she doesn't just leave us to deal with this illness on our own and return to work. It has frayed my nerves and I have been in a foul mood for a while now. I apologize for allowing it to effect my writing in here. I'm really not the AH I must have seemed to be.

Jerry713 We both seem to have taken each other out of context and thank you for the weight vs price of non-lithium batteries points you made. Although nothing was asked on that subject it did give me something to think about.

Be well

SB

No worries SB hope you and your family are hanging in there. These are tough/crazy times we're all in for sure. Sorry I couldn't help with the Island Hopper set up.

Take care...Jerry
