I just now learned that the THSBA Board has made the grueling decision to cancel the THSBA State Championship on Lake Belton. As I understand it, the AOY Championship on Lake Conroe is also cancelled. This is very sad news to us and I’m sure the decision was very hard to make. My hats off to Tim Haugh and the THSBA Board for the hard work and dedication you have demonstrated throughout these trying times. I earnestly pray that we can get through all of this COVID-19 stuff soon and have a great season next year.

Man, that is a bummer. A lot of kids (and boat captains/parents) put in a lot of time and effort to qualify. These tournament directors have had their hands full with all of this stuff and I feel for them making these really tough calls. This isn't the forum for me to get into my thoughts on all this COVID carp but we will all get through this.

I second the hats off to Tim and Ken and the rest of the guys.
We were looking forward to it, but my boys understand and we’re praying we will have a season next year since they are seniors

It really stinks, this coming from a high school graduate who's last tournament would've been the state tournament. But nothing but respect for the THSBA and their decision. Not the decision they wanted to make, but had to.

Man, I know that was a tough decision and I will probably get blasted for this post but we can't let this Covid thing control our lives. Above all other sports, most fisherman already wear a face mask during the summer time fishing on the water. We're already conditioned on it so following the mask guidelines would be easy. The younger generations are mostly asymptomatic and if they do get sick, recover quickly. We all take a risk everyday when we leave the house. Covid aside, we all are at risk the minute we head to the lake. We all know someone who's had a bad car accident or fell asleep driving back from the lake, most know someone who's had a serious boating injury, and we read about drownings all the time. Do we sit at home Saturday morning in fear or do we head to the lake? I'm not trying to start a debate here or question their decision but the saying "the only thing to fear is fear itself" has a lot of meaning in our world today.

It is a bummer. Unfortunately this is just the beginning I'm afraid. I would be amazed if they have a full season next year. Their season basically sits on top of the major cold and flu season. My guess is our world is locked down tighter than a drum by the time October and certainly November rolls around. I would be amazed if they allow any sports at all this fall. UIL or otherwise.

Not looking to argue with you, but it was a decision from the City of Temple to put the event on hold, then THSBA decided to cancel as not to drag it out any longer.

I would wager that things will start to get back to normal a little after November 3. Feel bad for the kids and Captains.

I concur......it'll be amazing how fast covid-19 will be under control after the election especially if sleepy joe wins

Sucks for everyone involved, but hopefully everyone and their loved ones are safe.

We better get on our knees and pray hard that sleepy joe does not win, that would be way worse than the pandemic.

While it stinks for the kids there have been lots of school events and sporting events cancelled so this is no exception and it shouldn’t be. We have way bigger issues than some fishing tournament.
