A big shout out to whatever jack wagon boat rigger that set up my blue wave back in 2001. Today I was running down the lake and suddenly the motor trimmed all the way up. I shut everything down, and threw the switch at the battery, I could not lower the motor, luckily, I was not too far from house, Puttered in with the trolling motor.. so I figured it was a bad switch or a short.
Pulled the switch on the motor, no joy. So I took the shifter apart , found the problem. The three wires From the switch were spliced underneath the console, no solder, no wire nuts , no tape. Who does that ? How does it not short out for 20 years, and why now?
Some solder and tape , I back in business.

Cut short a nice trip , my neighbor and I had only hit 5 Brushpiles and had 20 crappie.

Seriously, you blame a dealer after 19-20 years of usage? I would hate to sell you anything.

There is a right way and wrong way to to do the simple things, this was wrong, what if this had happened 20 miles offshore.?

Took my boat to Plano Marine twice and came back both times with more problems than I originally went in with. And it was all relatively simple things that were overlooked. Like installing a rod box latch backwards. Bigger problem was cracking a livewell hose that wasn't cracked before I took it in. They had to move my onboard charger for some work and must have either stepped on the hose or dropped the heavy charger on it. Bilge area quickly filled with water the first time I put boat in water. Ruined trip for sure. This was a few years ago so things may have improved since then but I won't give them a third chance.

It is my understanding that bluewave ships hulls , the motor/controls are done by the dealership.

My apologies to Plano Marine , my anger should be directed to the unknown person that did not finish the wiring job.
Just needed to vent ,

It was a PIA , but could have been so much worse. I had the tools on board to fix it , but it would have sucked if it had happened in bad
weather or miles from the dock.

Good luck and may all your splices be done right, smile

I agree , should have been a connector like the one on the switch on the motor. ( even that connector caused me to scratch my head , you had to push down
on the tab to release. Most conectors ( in my experience ) you have to lift up on a tab to release. )

That's not good that the splice was not done correctly, I'm guessing someone twisted them together to test the operation and then forgot to go back to make a permanent splice. I also don't agree with soldering and black tape for boat wiring, solder is very rigid and can break with the pounding a boat takes and black tape doesn't last long, especially in the heat. I prefer heat shrinkable crimp splices, sometimes with more heat shrink tubing over that...

Anything could happen since 2001.

I can’t feel sorry for anyone that can get back to their house on the trolling motor! That’s my dream to eventually end up living on the lake!

I feel blessed to have lived on the lake since 98. the 35 minute commute is well worth it. My neighbor and I often sit on the dock at sunset and
feel sorry for all the folks who live in town.

good luck all

My boat’s wiring under the console looks like a spider web. Came from the factory that way and the dealer added to it.

You should have used marine grade baling wire and camo duct tape to fix it if you really wanted to have the problem behind you. bolt
