Got a bad feeling it’s toast.
I got hung up in a crab trap and it killed the motor promptly. We crawled off in the marsh mud and had to cut it loose with dikes. Spun the prop and best I could tell no bent prop shaft. Got on plane but noticed a vibration at low speed in gear at the next stop. Ran fine all day then coming in it lost power down to 4000 rpms. Shut it down and now it won’t get much over 1000 rpms.
Starts and idles, but super rough.
I change plugs, water separator, fuel filter and med pressure fuel filter every 6-9 months. I run ring free and ethanol free gas only.
It’s in the slip now so I can’t pull plugs till tomorrow.
Has anybody had similar experiences or any advice?

Make sure you didn’t lose all your oil during the accident. It might have bent your prop shaft too.

Pulling the plugs usually tells the story. Not idling in neutral probably eliminates the lower. Sorry to hear it, I run the same engine.

I just put it on trailer. It’ll run in gear, won’t go over 1000 rpms in nuetral still. Gonna pull plugs and hope to find a couple fouled completely but am expecting to see some aluminum.
Boatman do you do house calls? If so, I’m about 9 hours southeast of ya! Thanks for the offer, I’d bring it by if I was closer.

Sounds like it's toast. Everyone I have seen that had those symptoms was.

Yep, she’s toast. Here’s plug for number 1 cylinder. One side is fine, other side has metal. Ugh. Guess the Good Lord is telling me it’s time to give the redfish a break. We cleaned north of 115 redfish the 6 days we’ve been down here on vacation in da marsh. ![[Linked Image]](https://texasfishingforum.com/forums/pics/userpics/2020/07/full-51893-58852-d9e799e6_8eb2_483d_be5f_bb3925ec6f39.jpeg) ![[Linked Image]](https://texasfishingforum.com/forums/pics/userpics/2020/07/full-51893-58853-3460f8e1_f59a_4b73_99ab_9eefb91db61d.jpeg)

I have a 225 HPDI also, and am scared to think that is what blew your engine. Or do you think it was a coincidence? Did you have any issues prior to the crab trap? Man I feel ya, and sorry that happened. I just got mine a couple months ago and am terrified something like that will happen.

Man I feel ya, and sorry that happened. I just got mine a couple months ago and am terrified something like that will happen. That motor has been through a lot, no telling how many hours. I’m meticulous about maintenance on it and have turned a wrench a lot on it. Plugs and fuel filters very regular, ethanol free gas and ring free is easy to do. If you do that and pay attention to the sounds of the motor you’ll be fine. I’m still trying to figure out how the trap and me roasting a piston are connected, as much as I run this boat and to have that low speed vibration after the trap incident then blowing it the next day is too much to be coincidence I think. I’m thinking I may have had minor issues already and that motor getting physically stopped at the time it’s under most stress probably pushed the minor issue into a major one.

You may have a chance insurance could do something if you claim the collision caused it to blow. Talk to the local dealer.

The prop shaft is not bent, the prop is chewed up a little, the only thing I can think of that would cause that vibration would be the drive shaft. Slamming that motor shut at full throttle at 3,000 or so rpms ain’t good on something. I would have thought the hub would have spun before the drive shaft would twist and torque out of straight.
