Hey Everyone.

So I generally fish at Surfside Jettys but I only started a couple weeks back and I noticed I have been getting caught a lot on the rocks and really not a lot of action with fish. Also I have been going around 10am, is this the right time or should I be there at like 6am?

Any suggestions on what I can do to improve? I pick up my two new rods next week which are the following setups:

Penn Spinfisher 7500v on a 7ft Penn Rod
Shimano 5500 spinning on a 10 ft surf Rod

Baits I'm using:
Frozen Shrimp / 3 oz spoons / Shads / other various top bait artificials

Any advice? It feels that so far with artificials like the Shad and Spoon I need to cast out and reel in and dont let it sit at all. Also what side do you fish on regarding Channel vs Ocean?

Any advice would be awesome. Or even other locations to go. I live in SW Houston and Surfside just seems to be the most convenient place to park and go. I was interested in the Seawolf dock in Galveston too but no idea if you have to pay or what time you can show up etc.

Also if you are wondering, currently I was using a freshwater rod that I had since like 2000 lol so I know the rod/reel upgrade alone should help but still need to do the right thing with the tools

Get on Youtube and search "Freeport Jetty" and you'll find a lot of helpful information. Knowing your target species would be one of the first things to plan for. Build your setup and baits around that. Should pay more attention to tidal conditions and their effect instead of what time to go. Tides4fishing is a good site to visit for tide info. If not, sunrise instead of 10am. Wind and water conditions play a big part too. You're pretty new to this so like I said, get on YouTube and educate yourself. There's a lot to learn if you want to be successful. Good luck!
