Population-wide immunity to the novel coronavirus could be "unachievable" with antibodies to the virus disappearing after just a few weeks in some patients, according to a major new Spanish study.
The Spanish government teamed up with some of the country's leading epidemiologists to discover what percentage of the population had developed antibodies that could provide immunity from the coronavirus.
The study found that just 5% of those tested across the country maintained antibodies to the virus, in findings published by the medical journal The Lancet.
The study also found that 14% of people who had tested positive for coronavirus antibodies in the first round of testing no longer tested positive in subsequ https://www.businessinsider.com/coronavirus-antibodies-study-herd-immunity-unachievable-spain-2020-7What does this mean for vaccine development? Do vaccine antibodies last longer than natural antibodies?

We're all doomed. Darwin was right. Might as well start the culling like they did in New York.

We have 8-10 people who dogpile every Covid thread with sarcasm. You know who you are. Let's dial it back just a bit please.

Well, the flu vaccine doesn't last forever. Neither does DPT or a whole host of others. I just don't see Covid being an extinction level event, although some seem to be certain it is.

Can't stay shut down til they find a vaccine that maybe 5 months to a yr or more if there even is one. Just have to take care of you and your family as you see fit and move on.

The 1918 flu had 4 rounds and was gone without a vaccine. It killed approx 50 million worldwide and only 1/3 or the population was exposed to it. Are there any Coronaviruses that don't eventually go away?

I've got 'em. From what I hear they don't give immunity anyway. Plenty of cases of reinfection !

Are there any Coronaviruses that don't eventually go away? I think 4 of the 7 human coronavirus haven't gone away. So far, only 2 have burned out on their own.

MD was talking about herd immunity in UK. It did not work. approx. 40% of the population with antibodies were losing them within 8 weeks.

oh for the love.. there wont be a vaccine. When was the last time they had a vaccine that worked on anything? The flu vaccine is a joke. If you get it, you get it. What are we really supposed to do if herd doesnt work? You might as well take the mask off.

I think most vaccines work pretty well including flu vaccines, but there are over a dozen different influenza viruses and they only stockpile vaccines for 1 or 2 of them on any given year.

How do y’all think vaccines work? I do not believe that this thing is as contagious as it is, and we will not develop immunity to it. Either way, we will find out.
