Today I made the voyage trip from Lipan to below the dam at Pk, threw and swim bait on the right side on the rocks and got a few hits. Saw a bunch of carp and gar and snakes. Didn’t look like anyone was catching anything on the main point facing the dam. Hoping to run into a swim bait or topwater striper before this year ends .
Just curious, is it worth fishing from the dam to the 16 bridge with lures?

would have been great last year after the big stripers left PK. That stretch of river is fished very hard. I have fished it in the past with live shad and caught a few. That big pool just above the bridge is only 8-10 feet deep at the most. Used swimbaits at the dam a few times and caught a few. If you are at the dam very early or very late you might catch a couple. There are usually some big LM Bass in that pool too.

I have watched locals fish that pool below the dam with cut shad and balloons used to take the bait to the deep water by the dam when the wind is out of the south. They caught huge catfish and big stripers. Not sure what is in there now.

The problem with the Brazos is the water is not deep and the water temp is high due to the BRA doing away with the generators that would have put cold aerated water out. Right now all you have is a couple spouts or a floating flood gate open and that water at the surface of Pk is 85 degrees. Stripers perfect temp is 55 degrees. Nothing down river is deep and the clear water disappears once one of the local creeks come in. By the time you get down to FM 4 you have the real Brazos, a muddy nasty brackish river.

Fishing is not much better in PK lake. Big stripers are few and not enough time has passes for sand bass or some other fish to fill the void. I'm catching lots of 12-15 inch stripers so they will be back in a few years. Right now the easyest thing to catch at PK is bait. The lake is full of shad.

John 21:3 Simon Peter saith unto them, I go a fishing. They say unto him, We also go with thee.
