What anchor do u use or what's a gd anchor that will hold u in ur spot I know most people got spot lock but I am not there yet any pics or ideas will be greatly appreciated

Keep two of these on the boat. The key to anchoring is having enough rope

Be sure to have at least 6 feet of chain between the anchor and rope.

Curious as to why I need chain between anchor and rope does it help it grab the bottom better

The chain will guarantee there is a downward pull on the anchor to help it set into the bottom.

Chain helps but is not necessary. Also I think 3-4ft of chain is more than sufficient

What type of boat are you trying to anchor? The Grappler anchor is great for small boats.

It does not matter how it lands and if you hang it up you can pull it free.

A chain will also act as a shock absorber when your boat is anchored in rough water.

19 footer bass boat

Any of the anchors described will work on a 19 foot boat. Anchoring is a function of the weight of the anchor, the length of chain, and length of the rope. The more rope you have out the smaller the anchor can be. It is recommended to put out 8 feet of rope for every foot of water depth. That works great in the ocean, but can cause issues in a lake with trees. The heavier the anchor and chain the shorter the rope can be. So you have to decide the size and shape of anchor you want to store, and the weight of the anchor you want to pull off the bottom.

The bottom of the lake you frequent might matter as well. We have a sandy bottom on Cedar Creek lake, and the grappler anchor didn't really do me any good. I bought a digger which is a fancier(more expensive) version of the anchor BrandoA posted. It works well, but is probably not that much more effective. Mine works without a chain,but would probably be easier to get set if I had one. I got 100 foot anchor line since our lake goes 65 foot in the middle. I haven't needed to put out that much line, but it would prefer to have too much than too little. Would recommend practicing prior to you really needing it. My first year at the airshow on our lake was pretty stressful trying to figure everything out with an audience of a few hundred people and a pretty small area to operate.

A good rule of thumb when anchoring 3ft of rope for every 1ft of water. It takes practice to drop your anchor and drift back to the spot you wanted to anchor over. If he anything error on the side of letting out to much rope... that gives you room for error and getting the anchor to stick. Nothing will blow fish out quicker than an anchor dragging through them.
