We have CareFlite. Neighbor across the street is a pilot for them. He turned me on to it a few years ago. Before that, I didn’t even know their were costs involved that regular insurance wouldn’t cover, nor did I know that CareFlite had an “insurance” plan as well.
Piece of mind I guess.

Yep...and let me tell you something, it is most likely worthless for car accidents.
My mom and I carry it through our water companies. When she had her wreck in 2017, she had to be air lifted to the hospital via CareFlite (the company our insurance covered). When the bill came in, it was a few dollars shy of $30,000. The air ambulance insurance policy said it would be a max of $7500. When questioned about it, CareFlite stated that because it was a car accident, we couldn't use the air ambulance policy.
So, yeah. Fortunately we were able to cover it until the settlement, along with the rest of her insurance bills....I'd raise my medical coverage on the vehicle. Now, if you're out in the boonies and one of y'all have a heart attack, or something like that, then yes, it'll be beneficial. If not....you're gonna be in for a big surprise.

Several years ago, I was life flighted. The bill was $36,000. The helicopter company was out of network, so my insurance company dragged their feet paying it. I had reached my out of pocket max. The policy said it was covered 100%. Got a letter from the company asking for help collecting from the insurance. They warned I was ultimately responsible for the bill.
After 60 dayS or so, the insurance company paid the bill.

I offer this as personal experience, worth what you're paying for it:
Back in 1996 Mom was diagnosed with lung cancer. Problem was, she lived on Long Island and we live here in the D/FW area. What to do ?
Mom's in the hospital, I'm on a plane to come to N.Y., and Mary's in S.C. for oldest son's graduation from Basic - yes, Ft. Jackson, home of the (in)famous drag-a$$ hill.
So - long story short, we sell Mom's house in a day and a half, load her car up on a portable parking lot with a delivery date in Richardson, and call the air ambulance. Who owns it?
Connie Kalitta (sp?) of drag racing fame. We got a G-4 at Islip airport, pilot, co-pilot and RN/ER nurse for Mom - 3 tanks of oxygen for her and treats for her Llasa Apso. At Mom's age of 75+ at the time, she had never flown anything but coach and the dog went under the seat in front of her (in coach). Hospital bed for Mom along one side bulkhead (which the deyogee just LOVED) that Mom never used, treats for the princess deyogee and luxury all the way from Islip NY to Nashville (fuel and potty stop) and then to Addison airport. Taxi from Addison airport to Richardson and the whole trip cost $10,000 No insurance, paid out of pocket.
WORTH EVERY PENNY ! ! ! Mom got treated like the Queen she was, the deyogee was the Queen of the world on that hospital bed and a gruelling trip on AA was turned into the trip of a lifetime. Mom never asked what it cost, but she delighted in telling the story to anyone who would listen.
Just thought I'd share, might not be too many first-hand experiences with air ambulances here on the TFF.
Remember, worth what you paid for it.
God Bless . . . . . R.I.P. Mom - Love you . . .

I took a ride in one in 2003. Insurance said they were out of network. Come to find out they were all out of network. The bill was about 12k. Insurance said the max they would pay was 1800, then said the flight was unneeded and wouldn't even pay that. I negotiated a one time payment to settle bill for 6k I think. I'm sure it would be much more today. If writing a check like that bothers you you might want to consider. It certainly bothered me at the time considering I had what I felt was really good insurance especially.

What’s the cost for something like that?
Keep looking forward. That’s why windshields are larger than rear view mirrors.

What’s the cost for something like that? The annual premium is $468 plus a one-time application fee of $60.

I had it when my son in-law was a Care Flight Nurse. I was on their "family plan". When he left there I dropped the insurance (due to cost). Also remember none of them fly from everywhere. If you are in say Colorado, Care Flight does not have facilities there (unless they have recently opened something). .
