As Banker indicated they are redear sunfish (Lepomis microlopus). The state record is 2.99 pounds, but those are really nice ones. Thanks for the report.

Hey Chuck I may have the catch and release record now that I am looking at There is no C&R record Redear for the Rio Grande River. Make sure the fish was over 10". All of them looked like 10 pluses to me. Also no weight records posted for the Rio Grande River. Go get em Jared.

Those are some fun fish to catch..... Redear, Shellcracker or Chinquapin are common names for that species..... Very Nice Catches......
