Tim, it's not that different from daytime fishing. To get started, go to your favorite daytime places (places that you know well) and simply go fishing. You may find that the fish are a bit more aggressive and quite possibly shallower. And if you have any offshore structure that you know well like humps or rockpiles, they can be awesome after dark.

I'd recommend a good blacklight and no other light of any sort. Also a good small flashlight is necessary for tying knots, removing hooks, etc.

And of course, be careful out there because your depth perception can get screwy after dark, and it is obviously a bit more dangerous than daytime fishing.

KEEP THE DECK CLEAR of unnecessary rods, tackle, etc. You don't need 7 rods at night. Pick a couple or three baits and leave it at that.
