Am I right here:

Helix GSN model on center console running the fish finder part. I see brush or something I want to fish over the top of so I set way point on that spot on the fish finder.
I have my ipilot linked to helix.
I should be able to spot lock on that exact way point correct?

What I’m curious about though is the fact that my head unit gps will be on the center console, my transducer will be like 8’ back, and my ipilot will be 9 feet forward.
How do I position myself directly over something I see on the fish finder?

Put an external GPS antenna at the stern. This will be very close to being over the transducer when you mark a spot you like. It matters not where the screen is once you configure an external antenna.
This external GPS antenna should be configured for the console unit only, not the bow unit(s). Now, the ipilot and front GPS should be configured to use their internal GPS antenna, which is at the bow, and that is very close to being over the trolling motor. Thus, when the TM goes to the waypoint, it WILL be very very close to being over the same spot that rear transducer and GPS antenna were. Does that make sense?

Yessir. I won’t have bow unit.
So basically put an external gps on the stern and I can change the ff to use It.

With the ipilot linked to the ff do I just choose the waypoint and is there like a “go to” on the tm?

I believe so, but I don't have 'Birds, so someone else will have to tell you the how. The TM does have an antenna, so it will be over the physical waypoint just as the stern GPS antenna was over the transducer when you made the waypoint for what the transducer saw.

Flipping out is correct. But I’ve never seen the trolling motor put you over a waypoint in this fashion. There is an error in the sonar return as well as your trolling motor. Probably in the tune of +/-10ft

Humminbird's GPS is very accurate if you create a waypoint based on sonar and locate that waypoint with a GPS antenna and the antenna is were the sonar transducer is.

With 360 you can see how accurate it is when you see the waypoint at its sonar location.

For the one display setup, subscribe to the Ext GPS antenna in the Network menu when using the outboard.
When using the iPilot for navigation, subscribe to iPilot in the Network menu.

Why do you think it’s off?

Everything has accuracy tolerances. It’s just the ways of the world. Even in semiconductors, when we spec something to 3 micro meters, there are tolerances around it. Satellites triangulate positions from 12,000 miles away to determine a position, so errors are inherent. Next time your near a buoy, side scan it to where you can see the rope, Mark it, and then you can try to go to that way point. You’ll see where you really end up. It will help you to have an above water reference too.

AND the higher the number of satellites to do the triangulations the more accurate the position will be.

When I find fish or areas of interest especially on si screen, with the link system you can move the cursor over the target and have the unit go-to the cursor. It will take you right to that spot. It has always put me close enough to find the target area quickly with 2d
