“I don’t have the time or manpower to worry about whether people are wearing masks or not,” Murphree said. “I believe the Constitution trumps everything, and I believe in personal responsibility.”

Murphree said that personally, he will comply with the order, but he has instructed deputies specifically to not enforce the mask order. He worries that the order “invites chaos.”

“Business can require a mask, and people who don’t want to wear a mask don’t have to go to those businesses,” Murphree said. “I think people will rebel and purposefully try to go into establishments without masks. When people are told to do something that violates their civil rights, it invites chaos and protest.”

I’m going to wear a mask because I don’t want to be the guy who causes the .xx% death of mine or someone else’s loved one.

I also believe the only thing government is good at keeping safe is their jobs. I’m mad our elected officials bowed to protestors during a pandemic. Disbanding that group would have been a truly impactful way to save the innocent lives they claim to want to protect.

Good for the Sheriff.

Agree with his non-enforcement position.

Don't see any sense of him going public with his policy, his interpretation of the Constitution or the little zinger he threw toward the Governor. Guess some folks just like the publicity.

Should have just told the deputies, not the media.

He told the public, this should help to relieve some anxiety in these anxious times. I am glad I live in Denton county. We have long been the best county in N Texas, even with Krum.

One thing this order is gonna cause is added stress to an already struggling police force. They have enough on their plate now to deal with and do not need every Karen in the state snitching 24/7 on someone not wearing a mask. You are exposing your LEOs to more unneeded negative interactions with citizens.

Also interesting to note thst Abbott limited gatherings even outdoor gatherings big time but has no issue holding a Republican convention indoors in 2 weeks in Houston which is the leading Rona hotspot in Texas.

This just proves how dumb "they" think we really are. Exceptions for the ruling class are the norm.

Then we all should be confident that the bars and strip clubs will be opened in Houston in 2 weeks.

It does make one wonder. If masks are the true answer then why not reopen 100% with masks in place? I still think they feel we are too dumb to see the contradictions of their actions.
