Do you have to use a drop shot hook for the drop shot? I get they are designed for a specific use, but will your production be lower if you Texas rig a worm or use a larger hook? I guess you will lose some of the action of the worm with a larger hook.

Any hook will work. Put a bobber and tie above and you have my "Daytona" rig (from 40 years ago). Good luck.

"Never rule out the impossible - happening to you" Orson Card said it (or something like it). Especially if you snag a rail of the Titanic . . . That rig kept me fed in Daytona fishing the bridges and Ponce Inlet Jetty when I left a job paying $4+ an hour to go to aircraft school and could only find one that paid 1/2 that scrubbing airplane bellies. It was a tough go to say the least.

match the hook to the plastic used, not the technique. ie, there's not a "c-rig hook."

I use a number 2 mosquito. Slow reel hook set. Pins them really good. The bigger the fish, they better they get stuck. I usually need pliers to unhook a 4+ pound fish. The hook barb is in the boney part of the upper jaw.
Eat. Sleep. Fish.

# 1 or 1/0 round bend with the bait t-rigged. There are just so many snags here that it is near impossible to fish an open hook. Caught them up to 9 lb. on this rig. I usually fish them in vegetation.
Also use the long cyndrical weight around wood and in grass.
