Who uses them?
In my limited experience in trying use them to connect the mid section of the leader to the tippet I’ve come to the conclusion that I do not care for them. Using brand new 2x tippet and a brand new tapered leader the tippet rings are cutting the line every time. Using a simple cinch knot but they don’t seem to be the issue.
I’m getting better at the surgeon’s knot and can make the tag ends pretty minimal when joining. That seems to be the way to go.
I’m really getting into fly fishing from my yak and just wanted to see if I could get a feeling for what everyone here uses.
Thanks,
Doug

I use them with 4x to 6x fluoro leader and tippet. Improved clinch knot. No issues with breakage.

Three knots I think will get you through any situation. Improved clinch to the bug. Double or triple surgeons for leader to tippet and a loop knot for streamers.

They are a must have for me but I am using them different. I would go through my sighter in no time (euro rig) without them. The size leaders you are using I would use micro swivels

Have you tried Rio's Twist Clips? https://www.rioproducts.com/products/rio-twist-clips. These will be tied on at the terminal end of your leader/tippet. I use them on all my rigs from 4wt-8wt. I use an improved clinch and Loon UV Knot Sense. Three sizes: #1, #2 and #3. I use #2 on most of my warm-water bass rigs but have used #3 on larger streamers and poppers. Takes a bit of practice to learn the twist-on/twist-off motion but with time it gets very easy. I have also found that a #2 and #3 will not go over certain types of hooks so try at home before you get to the water. Agree with Turf Dawg on the nymphing rigs...rings the only way to go.

Turf Dawg, Are you using a favorite brand and/or size of tippet ring? I had also had breakage problems at the ring with 4x and 5x. Thanks.

These do come loose in a pack so I put them on swivel but some people use a safety pin 🧷 If you order off this site you are also buying from a USA fly fishing team member

I ended up getting some Rio steelhead rings and had better results. Still, tying my own leaders for bass is becoming more appealing.
