My family and I will be spending a few days in Oklahoma at the Hidden Hills Cabins in Hochatown. I have never been but have heard nothing but good things. I have a kayak and intend to take a few trips during our stay but have not clue where to start or what places I should try, ect... Anyone have any thoughts or insight you are willing to provide? Baits, locations, times, ect...

1. Target species is small mouth as I have never caught one and would love to check that box.
2. Also love catching pretty much anything that bites. So those locations are welcome as well.
3. I have a paddle kayak and can anchor in up to 8' of water as that is as long as my anchor pole is, if that is helpful in any response given.

Never fished Broken Bow but I would imagine it won't be hard to find a nice cove sheltered from the wind. You may also want to consider the Lower Mtn Fork....I have been dying to put the kayak in the Lower Mtn Fork in Beaver's Bend State Park. Fished there many times for trout but one trip in particular used one of those inflatable pontoon boats...targeted trout but i must say, wished I was equipped to catch bass as the section I was fishing was full of them. Have caught both large mouth and small mouth while fishing for trout. Much of the river is restricted for wade fishing only but the section from the Evening Hole bridge down to the fly shop is accessible...we fished the section just upstream from the fly shop. There's also a place to put in just above the Re-Reg dam downstream from the park. I've seen several you tube videos on that and hope to do that this summer as well. Also, the section below the Re-Reg dam down to Hwy 70...I've caught several smallmouth there (again targeting trout) with crawfish imitation flies. You can find you tube videos on this section of the river. There is an outfitter at the 70 bridge that will shuttle you and your boat up to the Re-Reg dam and you float down...I think it's about 3.5 miles. If they're generating at Broken Bow, you'll have some nice sections of moving water here as well.

I've caught smallmouth and largemouth on crawfish imitation flies...also caught a walleye which I didn't know were in the river. Caught rainbow & brown trout targeting them specifically on small trout imitation crank baits...started seeing a lot of bass but for some reason, they weren't interested in the crankbait.....the whole time was wishing I had my bass rod for a carolina rig or drop shot rig. There are some nice largemouth in that river.....apologies for the long post... smile

Awesome, thank you for the feedback. Anything is helpful as I am not familiar with the body of water at all. I have seen a video in the beaver bend area. I may check that out first. Need to do some more research too.

Truly beautiful lake.. fished a few days there 6 years ago. Camped out not far from the Carson Creek public boat ramp. Fished all away around the big island to the north east in map. The big cove on the north side of island was where I got out and just started looking at the incredible rocks. It was late spring I believe but would go right back to the same place if I went back.

lconn4, looks like a beautiful place. Looking forward to it to say the least. Did you pick up any fish while you were there?

caught a few spots and largemouth on worms and umbrella rig fishing the points in 20+ feet of water. Nothing over 16 inches but was first time fishing that clear of water and lots of other kayakers trying to fish the same spots on tournament day. Heard later that nearer the dam was where more smallmouths are caught.

If you’re targeting smallies, I’d fish the rivers, Upper or Lower. Below Re-Reg down to the 70 bridge is Zone 3. Great fishing but you’ll need to check the generation schedule to verify accessibility. If you don’t have multiple vehicles you can get one of the many float companies to ferry you for a small fee. Another option is the north end of the lake and the UMFR. There are a couple of access points. I can PM you the details if you’re interested. Last year a group of us put in at Smithville and fished our way about 7 miles down the river. Beautiful trip and lost count of the fish we caught.
